Meet The Team

Amy Doneen, DNP

Medical Director, Heart Attack & Stroke Prevention Center

Amy Doneen, DNP  “Amy Doneen, DNP and Bradley Bale, MD are among the most influential names in cardiology and founders of the renowned BaleDoneen Method for preventing cardiovascular events. The duo received acclaim from the scientific community for their role in publicizing the oral-systemic link through their evidence-based conclusion that periodontal disease is not simply a risk factor for, but a contributing cause of, heart disease.” — HuffingtonPost, “This New, Treatable Cause of Heart Disease is Bridging the Gap Between Doctors and Dentists.”

Amy L. Doneen, DNP is an international leader in the prevention of heart attacks, strokes and diabetes.  She is the cofounder and a principal instructor in the BaleDoneen Method, practiced by more than 1,000 healthcare providers around the world. This genetically guided, precision medicine approach to the prevention, detection and treatment of cardiovascular disease (CVD) has been shown in two recent peer-reviewed studies to halt, stabilize and even reverse CVD, helping people avoid heart attacks and strokes, even if they have already suffered one or more of these events.

Dr. Doneen is the owner and medical director of The Prevention Center For Heart & Brain Health (TPC) in Spokane, Washington, a highly sought private clinical practice that serves patients from all over the world using the BaleDoneen Method. Founded in 2003, TPC was one of the first facilities of its kind in the United States to offer its patients a written guarantee of arterial wellness, stating that if they suffer a heart attack or stroke, they will get a refund of all fees paid that year. To date, the clinic has only had to give one refund, despite serving patients with major risk factors for cardiovascular events, such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, type 2 diabetes, smoking and obesity, including patients weighing up to 400 pounds.

Dr. Doneen holds professorships at the Washington State University School of Medicine, University of Kentucky College of Dentistry and Texas Tech University Health Science Center. She has published her research in many leading medical journals, including the American Heart Association’s Circulation, Atherosclerosis, the official journal of the European Atherosclerosis Society, Postgraduate Medicine, Frontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine Journal of the National Medical Association, Journal of Clinical Lipidology, Archives of Medical Science, The International Journal of Nursing & Clinical Practices, Journal of Clinical & Experimental Cardiology, and Physician’s Weekly.

Amy Doneen

She is also the co-author of Beat The Heart Attack Gene: The Revolutionary Plan to Prevent Heart Disease, Stroke, and Diabetes (John Wiley and Sons, 2014), available in hardcover, paperback, audio and e-book formats from Amazon and other booksellers. One of Dr. Doneen’s recent peer-reviewed publications has been widely hailed as “landmark” in the media and the scientific community because it was the first to identify periodontal pathogens as a contributing cause of CVD. This discovery could lead to new oral-systemic treatments to prevent arterial plaque buildup, fostering a team approach in which medical and dental providers work together to provide the optimal, science-based care advised by the BaleDoneen Method.

Dr. Doneen has received many awards and professional honors, including American Academy for Oral Systemic Health’s (AAOSH) Lloyd Rudy Leadership Award and the Partner in Health Award, presented by the Washington Dental Hygienists Association for “educating the community on the oral-systemic connection to cardiovascular disease and the role of dental hygienists in collaborative care.”

Since 2002, she has given nearly 1,000 lectures, presentations and keynote speeches to leading medical, dental, nursing and healthcare groups in the U.S. and abroad, including AAOSH, American Academy of Physiological Medicine & Dentistry, American Dental Association, American Heart Association, American Osteopathic Association, Cleveland HeartLab, MDVIP, International Atherosclerotic Society and the European Atherosclerosis Society. Dr. Doneen has served on many advisory boards and as a consultant to Cleveland HeartLab and MyGenetx. She is cofounder of the BaleDoneen Method international preceptorship program, an accredited continuing medical education (CME) and continuing education (CE) course that teaches healthcare providers advanced techniques to detect—and reverse—CVD before the patient suffers a heart attack or stroke. Hundreds of MDs, DOs, ARNPs, dentists and other healthcare specialists have completed the training, some of whom subsequently opened their own prevention clinics, hailing the course as “an incredible resource…the future of medicine,” “the best, by far, educational program I have ever attended,” and “the education of a lifetime…the only totally comprehensive program in the world for the prevention of this disease.” Dr. Doneen’s media interviews include Fox Health News TV and radio, ABC TV, KLXY, The Wall Street Journal, Huffington Post, SafeBee The Spokesman Review, Medscape News and Perspective, The Best Practices Show with Kirk Behrendt, and ESPN, which reported on how Dr. Doneen screened coaches, scouts and former players from the Seattle Seahawks football team for CVD, using a state-of-the-art ultrasound test. Dr. Doneen has been described as a “disease detective” because the BaleDoneen Method uses advanced laboratory and imaging tests to check for hidden signs of arterial disease (plaque), which often causes no symptoms until it is severe enough to trigger a heart attack or stroke.

Through her groundbreaking publications and medical education programs, including monthly scientific update webinars, Dr. Doneen continues to pave the way for medical and dental providers to apply the leading-edge science of the BaleDoneen Method in the clinical setting, thus helping to improve and even save the lives of their patients. She lectures to all practitioner audiences, including cardiology, dentistry, internal medicine, family practice, nursing and functional medicine, as well as educating and empowering patients to take action to prevent heart attacks and strokes. She is convinced that cardiovascular prevention should be integrated into all medical, nursing and dental practices.

Dr. Doneen is a summa cum laude graduate of Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington, from which she received her bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degrees in nursing practice. She is a member of the American Heart Association, American Stroke Association, American Diabetes Association, American Lipid Association, Council on Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis and Vascular Biology, Society of Atherosclerosis Imaging and Prevention and other medical and nursing societies. Dr. Doneen is a founding member of the American Academy of Oral Systemic Health and has served as a member of the steering committee for “Healthy U” at Deaconess Medical Center. She is a past chair of the Pacific Northwest chapter of the Preventive Cardiovascular Nurses Association.
